A 5-star ceiling fan is the most energy-efficient rating from India's Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The star comes from one number, called service value. Service value is air delivery in cubic metres per minute divided by the fan's watts. More air for each watt means more stars.
Three things to check on the label:
- Watts. Lower is better for your bill.
- Service value. Compare it only between fans of the same size.
- Validity period. BEE's current tables run from January 2026 to December 2028. An older label may not mean the same thing today.
Star bars went up in the 2026 cycle. For 1200 mm fans, the 5-star bar is now higher than it was a few years ago. Ask any seller to show the label for your exact model.

Sweep size is the circle the blades cover. A bigger sweep moves more air at lower speed. A fan that is too small for the room will run hard and still feel weak.
